Dad’s Matter Act
Constituent request in support of the Dad's Matter Act - a bill to improve maternal health outcomes through promoting fatherhood engagement.
As a constituent and someone who cares deeply about the health and wellbeing of pregnant and new moms and the babies they love, I am writing to urge you to co-sponsor the Family Act (S.2131), introduced by Senators Warnock and Marshall. This critical aims to improve maternal health outcomes through promoting fatherhood engagement during pregnancy, postpartum and early childhood.
Fathers can be the best champions of maternal and infant health, supporting a partner during the preconception, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum periods, as well as in a child’s health, wellbeing, safety and development. However, they are too often sidelined and/or ignored by health care providers in obstetric and pediatric settings, and are not actively engaged by providers in care of mother and baby, to the detriment of both. Black fathers and other fathers of color are even less likely to be actively included in prenatal and postnatal care.
Studies have consistently demonstrated that supporting families holistically, actively including and engaging fathers in all aspects of maternal healthcare care, from preconception, through pregnancy and the first year postpartum can positively impact short- and long-term health outcomes.
It is for these reasons that I strongly urge you to co-sponsor the Dads Matter Act. Thank you for your consideration of my request, on behalf of moms everywhere.
Sincerely,

Rural Obstetrics Readiness Act
Constituent request in support of the Rural Obstetric Readiness. Act - a bill that creates and expands federal grant programs within the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to increase capacity to provide emergency obstetric health services in rural areas.
As a constituent and someone who cares deeply about the health and wellbeing of pregnant and new moms and the babies they love, I am writing to urge you to co-sponsor the bipartisan Rural Obstetrics Readiness Act (S.380/H.R.1254), introduced by Senators Maggie Hassan and Representative Robin Kelly. This critical bill creates and expands federal grant programs within the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to increase capacity to provide emergency obstetric health services in rural areas.
Between 2011 and 2021, over 260 rural hospitals in the U.S. shut down their obstetrics services, representing one in four of the nation’s rural obstetric units.1 This has left more than 2 million women in a maternity care desert, meaning that they live in a county without a provider offering obstetric care such as labor and delivery.
In areas where there are no obstetric services, emergency departments and other health care facilities play a vital role in maternal and infant health. In these areas, women who are pregnant, postpartum, or in labor often come to emergency rooms at facilities that do not have obstetricians. Obstetric readiness programs such as training, equipment, and simulation can support non-obstetric providers in treating patients experiencing an obstetric emergency. There are no existing targeted federal grants to help rural hospitals obtain the training and equipment needed to increase their obstetric readiness.
It is for these reasons that I strongly urge you to co-sponsor the Rural Obstetrics Readiness Act. Thank you for your consideration of my request, on behalf of moms everywhere.
Sincerely,

Family Act
Constituent request in support of the Family Act – to provide paid family and medical leave benefits to certain individuals, and for other purposes.
As a constituent and someone who cares deeply about the health and wellbeing of pregnant and new moms and the babies they love, I am writing to urge you to co-sponsor the Family Act (S.248/H.R.3481), introduced by Senator Gillibrand and Representatives DeLauro. This critical bill ensures that every worker, no matter the size of their employer or if they are self-employed or part-time, has access to paid leave for every serious medical event, every time it’s needed.
Today, just 43 percent of the private sector workforce has access to short-term disability coverage through their employer to cover an extended medical leave, with low-income workers disproportionately left out. Even fewer have paid leave to care for a seriously ill loved one or bond with a new child: Just 24 percent of private sector workers have access to paid family leave.3 Each and every day, too many Americans are forced by financial necessity to return to work instead of tending to their health or their loved ones, while others get or give the care they need at the cost of jeopardizing their family’s economic security.
It is for these reasons that I strongly urge you to co-sponsor the Family Act. Thank you for your consideration of my request, on behalf of moms everywhere.
Sincerely,
